The 6th annual Vintage Baseball Doubleheader between fans of the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum in Greenville, SC and the Ty Cobb Museum in Royston,GA The host Ty Cobb team treated Shoeless Joe players and fans to wonderful "Southern hospitality" with fun rides to the ball field 1860’s rules and terminology were enforced by the "judge,” including no gloves, no cleats, and no helmets. With catches on first bounce counting as outs and no walks, the emphasis of these vintage games is on hitting, base-running, and defense. The excitement started with an Opening Ceremony in which Clifford Ridgeway, a cousin of Ty Cobb and her great-grandson
With the Vintage Game Trophy on the line in the first game, the Shoeless Joes showed excellent hitting and tight defense, regaining the trophy from the Georgia Peaches with a 22-4 win. Third-base Coach Tom Perry was the MVP for the Joes, waving home a record number of runs to keep the bell ringing in the Joes' favor!
The Peaches roared back in the afternoon game for a 10-2 win with sharp hitting, crafty pitching and great stops in the field. Thanks to players, fans, sponsors and volunteers of both museums in making this 6th Vintage Games Doubleheader between the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum and the Ty Cobb Museum another great success ! A great day of baseball was had by all, with 23 players from the visiting Joes and 19 players from the Peaches and all their fans enjoying the beautiful fall weather.
